Company ProfileThe Refined Canine, LLC was founded in 1997 by Michelle and Matt Douglas. The Refined Canine, LLC follows the philosophy of The LIMA Principle, which means we employ the Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive methods possible to help build a strong relationship based on mutual trust and respect between a dog and his people. Our focus on enhancing the human-animal relationship is at the forefront of our work. All training methods are non-physical and proven to work. The Refined Canine, LLC has worked with dogs at all levels of obedience, offering group classes, private lessons and behavior modification counseling. Michelle Douglas is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT # 3010110) and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC # 308). She studied Veterinary Technology and Canine Science at Mount Ida College, and graduated from The Connecticut K-9 Education Center with honors in January 1997. Michelle brings the most updated information regarding animal behavior and training techniques to her classes and private sessions by attending seminars given by The New England Dog Training Association, Cornell University's Animal Behavior Clinic, Tufts University's School of Veterinary Medicine, Puppyworks Educational Seminars, The Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, as well as participating in educational programs with the training and zoology departments at Sea World Orlando. Michelle is currently President of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the largest professional organization for pet dog trainers worldwide. She is a certified member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, an endorsed presenter for the Dogs & Storks™ program, an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator (#28046) and a Mentor Trainer for Animal Behavior College. Michelle has published several articles on various aspects of owning and training dogs, and is featured in the books Top Tips from Top Trainers (©2010 TFH Publications) and The Dog Trainer's Resource, The APDT Chronicle of the Dog Collection (©2006 Dogwise). Michelle is also a regular guest blogger on DogStarDaily.com, the website of Ian and Kelly Dunbar.
