Company ProfileThe Refined Canine, LLC was founded in 1997 by Michelle and Matt Douglas. The Refined Canine, LLC follows the philosophy of The LIMA Principle, which stands for the Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive methods possible to help build a strong relationship based on mutual trust and respect between a dog and his people. Our focus on enhancing the human-animal relationship is at the forefront of our work. All training methods are non-physical and proven to work. The Refined Canine, LLC has worked with dogs at all levels of obedience, offering group classes, private lessons and behavior modification counseling. Michelle Douglas is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT # 3010110) and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC # 308, currently the ONLY CDBC in CT). She studied Veterinary Technology and Canine Science at Mount Ida College, and graduated from The Connecticut K-9 Education Center with honors in January 1997. Michelle brings the most updated information regarding animal behavior and training techniques to her classes and private sessions by attending seminars given by The New England Dog Training Association, Cornell University's Veterinary Behavior Clinic, Tufts University's School of Veterinary Medicine, Puppyworks Educational Seminars, The Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, as well as participating in educational programs with the training and zoology departments at Sea World Orlando. Michelle sits on the Board of Directors of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant by the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator (#28046). Michelle has published several articles on various aspects of owning and training dogs, and is a featured author in the book The Dog Trainer's Resource, The APDT Chronicle of the Dog Collection (©2006 Dogwise). Michelle was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the largest professional organization for dog trainers worldwide, beginning in 2008! Matt is also sponsored by The Refined Canine, LLC as B-Rider #836, racing motocross in AMA District 34 (MSC) in New York, as well as various races throughout New England. Our newsgroup generates approximately one e-mail per month. Members are not permitted to post or reply, this is strictly the way we distribute our newsletter. You can also join our discussion group to connect with other students of The Refined Canine, and other dog-families and professionals around the country. Several dog trainers and rescue volunteers participate and answer questions. This is a small group designed to allow the exchange of ideas, tips and stories from other people and families with dogs. The group began as a support group for people living with problem-dogs, but we all decided that we want to have the group be open for all kinds of dog-people to come together.
